We have purchased and installed a COBOT equipped with a JBC welding station to automate a THD welding process. This small automation responds to the need to solder a THD component on the top side of a circuit, while the rest of the THD components in the circuit are soldered on the bottom side. It is a product with low THD component density but high volumes, requiring a process cadence of only 5 seconds. This collaborative robot allows us to install it on the assembly conveyor, before the selective welding line, and easily adapt the welding program in the event of changes or new references. The PCB panels, pre-assembled with SMD components and THD components (assembled in automatic insertion machines), enter the line automatically from the loader. The COBOT welds the component onto the eight panel circuits and then enters the selective soldering machine, where the rest of the THD components are also automatically soldered onto the bottom side. Upon exiting the selective soldering machine, the assembled and soldered boards move on to another machine, the AOI (Automated Optical Inspection), which automatically inspects the components and all the soldering that has been done. At the end of the line, the finished and inspected circuit boards are unloaded onto racks, where they will be transported by plant to the next process.
